The Planetary Research Cooperative is a non-profit association registered in France (“association loi de 1901”) whose mission is to support the dissemination of scientific research in the field of planetary science.
The association believes that there should be no financial barriers to publishing planetary science research, and that the fruits of this research should be readily accessible to both the broad scientific community and non-experts alike.
The Planetary Research Cooperative is run by active planetary scientists and its board of directors is elected by the association’s members.
The primary mission of the association is to publish the diamond open access journal Planetary Research. This journal charges no publication fees for authors and is free to access for everyone.
In tandem with the journal, we run the Planetary Research Blog that publishes short summaries of cutting-edge planetary science research that are accessible to both the broad scientific community and non-experts alike.
We also host several services under the SolarSystem.social banner that aim to foster interactions among planetary scientists and that allow researchers to share their research. Current services include Mattermost, Mastodon and (soon) Peertube servers.
The activities of the association are funded through a variety of government grants, institutional contributions, and donations from researchers. The largest expenditure is related to running the journal Planetary Research, and our long term goal is to fund the journal through a consortium of institutional partners. Other activities of the association are supported by donations from its members.
